Chicken and Rice Dog Food.  Here are five recipes for you to try

My dog food recipes made from chicken and rice not only save time but provide your pet with a proper diet for health and longevity.

Many of my readers incorporate the family dinner with what to feed their pet.  Would you like to eat the same kibble every day of your life?

Certain foods should be avoided when you make homemade recipes.

Never feed your dog chocolate, alcohol, onions, pork (including bacon), raw fish, raw eggs, milk or bones. Each of these has its own ill effects on dogs. Limit the use of tuna because of the risks associated with the mercury levels in it.

Feed liver in moderation & not at all if you're giving your dog vitamin A supplements. Overdoses of vitamin A can be toxic & should not be in homemade dog food unless your vet told you how much to put into the homemade dog food.

One of the gentlest foods you can give your dog is chicken & rice.  

Vets have always put my dogs on a chicken & rice formula like this one if they aren't feeling quite right or they are allergic to many of the dog foods in the stores.

When Spooky is taking medication for an illness or allergy, it can sometimes cause stomach problems as well as loose stools.  This recipe should do the trick but ask your vet first before using  it.  I got my vet's approval before I tried this recipe on him and it worked.   

Use the Chicken & rice recipe & add fiber to the mix. 

Psyllium, a bulk-forming laxative, is used to treat loose stools. It absorbs liquid in the intestines, swells, & forms a bulky stool, which is easy to pass. This medication is sometimes prescribed  for other uses ask your Vet for more information.  Psyllium comes as a  powder, granules, or capsules.

I bought a big container from Trader Joe's here in  California.  It was around $6.00.  If I had bought Metamucil, it would  have cost me $15.00.

I know that many dog food recipes are available on the Internet & in books. Look for recipes that are high in protein content & make sure they don't contain foods that are harmful to you dog. Until Menu Foods & US based manufacturers can guarantee that they will not buy from China & other countries that use banned pesticides, rat poison & a fertilizer that uses a plastic based substance, we should be making our own dog food for our pets.

I think we should send a message & not buy the food, let them have a taste of shrinking profit margins & get them to produce good, healthy & trusted foods rather than owners having to make their own homemade dog food recipes.

I have thrown out the kibble I use to use for Spooky & Elle.  Canines in the wild never ate grains & corn.  The first Hills Science Diet had as it's first ingredients, peanut hulls!

Homemade dog food is far better than peanut hull and vets always prescribe a bland chicken and rice recipe for those dogs who are sensitive to canned food or dogs that are unwell and undergoing treatment.

#1 Chicken and Rice Dog food

Ingredients:

• 1 pound chicken, chopped
• 1 cup Basmatti Rice
• 2 Tablespoons olive oil
• 1 cup cooked carrots
• 1 tsp bone meal
• 1/2 cup cream of wheat or rice

Directions:

• Cook the Chicken by poaching or roasting
• Cook the Basmatti rice and let cool and add the olive oil
• Steam the carrots, cool and chop.
• Mix together the bone meal and the crushed pet tab
• Cook the cream of wheat and mix into the rice
• When everything is cool enough to handle, mix together in large bowl.
• Buy some plastic freezer bowls and put most of it away to freeze
• Leave enough for your dog to eat in separate container in the fridge.

 

Recipes can be cooked right in your kitchen using ground meats & healthy ingredients.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR:

#2 Chicken & Pumpkin Recipe

 INGREDIENTS:

1. 1 lb. ground Chicken Breast
2. 2 tbsp. tomato paste
3. 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
4. 2 tsp. brewer's yeast
5. 2 T. canned pumpkin

DIRECTIONS:

1. Cook ground chicken until done.
2. Add the tomato paste
3. add the garlic powder
4. add the brewers yeast
5. Stir in the canned pumpkin

# 3 Chicken and Cottage Cheese<

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. 4 oz. meat
2. two whole eggs
3. 1 tbs.. carrot (steamed)
4. 1 tbs.. cottage cheese
5. 1 tbs.. sunflower oil.

DIRECTIONS:

1. Cook the meat any way you would like
2. Scramble 2 whole eggs
3. mince the cooked carrot
4. Combine the meat, eggs & carrot
5. Add the cottage cheese
6. Add the Sunflower oil & mix.
7. Mix in canned pumpkin

#4 Chicken, Rice and carrots

Ingredients:

1. 1 pound chicken, chopped
2. 1 cup Basmatti Rice

2 Tablespoons olive oil

1 cup cooked carrots

3. 1 tsp bone meal
4. 1/2 cup cream of wheat or rice

Directions:

1. Cook the Chicken by poaching or roasting

3. Steam the carrots, cool & chop.

#5 Chicken & rice dog food with the addition of carrots & broccoli

Ingredients:

1. 2 chicken breasts, cooked
2. 1 cup rice cooked
3. 1 cup diced carrots or broccoli florets
4. ½ cup of chicken broth (from cooking the chicken)
5. 1 teaspoon olive or flax seed oil

Directions:

1. Gently boil chicken breasts in water (reserve water)
2. Steam the rice & carrots
3. Mince the chicken breasts (cut across the grain )
4. Add all the ingredients together & mix well
